Pravda Brewery in Lviv, Ukraine, made Putin Huylo famous, and the beer inspired a worldwide effort to raise money for Ukraine. Now, it’s finally here. However, Icarus Brewing won’t be using bottles for Molotov cocktails (which is partially why the beer reached internet fame).
Another reason the beer went viral is because of the label (you can see why). Additionally, the translation is pretty famous. Putin Huylo roughly translates to “Putin is a dickhead” in Ukrainian, though Google Translate will tell you otherwise. The phrase comes from Ukrainian soccer fans who’d chant this at games.
Icarus Brewing is located in Lakewood, NJ, and they deliver to most counties in New Jersey. While several other area breweries made charity beers, such as Stickman and Iron Hill, Icarus Brewing is the first brewery within driving distance from Philly to release Putin Huylo.
So far, Icarus Brewing has donated $4,000 to Pravda Brewery and World Central Kitchen, and they hope to raise more money for charity through sales and distribution of Putin Huylo. The original version of this beer is an 8% Belgian Strong Golden Ale. Putin Hyulo cans will be available in the Icarus Tasting Room and Web Store this Wednesday, April 13th.
