If you’re like me, you enjoyed many a sweet local brew this weekend to celebrate all things spooky and Halloween. As I sit here fighting off the good kind of Sunday Scaries (watching a horror movie), the beer that sticks out most in my mind is a style I don’t think about often.
I can’t say the last time I had a dunkel. A dark German lager, this brew is meant to be smooth, malty, and utterly delicious. This week, I had the pleasure of checking out the new Dancing Gnome location twice. It’s phenomenal and the taplist both days was diverse and amazing.
The beer that blew my mind? Jeweling Damselfly, a 5.4% dunkel that was so stinkin’ crushable. The latest entry in Dancing Gnome’s year-long watershed series, this dark lager drinks light and smooth. Tasting soft, sweet, and caramelly because of the malt backbone, this brew ends with a nice bready finish that makes it a darn perfect brew. It’s stupid good.
Available at the amazing new location on tap and in four packs for a low price of 12 bucks, add this to your brew rotation next week. It’s sublime. Best enjoyed with a warm, hearty meal, this beer is perfect for right now. Grab Jeweling Damselfly this week and prepare to love it as much as I did!
