If you know beer, you know Cantillon. If you don’t know Cantillon, please refer here.
September 25th is officially Zwanze Day 2021, and for those who have never had the chance to find a bar that is CHOSEN to participate, it’s surreal. On the Mt. Olympus of beers, Cantillon of Belgium surely holds a place. Every year, they bottle a special batch of lambic known as their Zwanze series. It’s hard to say what it will be from year to year. One year it’s rhubarb, another citrus. Honestly, they could add guacamole and I would probably go in with high hopes.
Now that the list of participating locations, it is time to save up. Lambics aren’t cheap, and rightfully so. The key ingredients to lambics are time, terroir, and craftsmanship. None of which are easily, if at all, replaceable. Having access to so many kinds of Cantillon is really a treat and a privilege that should not be taken lightly.
If you haven’t been into sours, you have approximately five weeks to do a crash course before the event. Trust me, you don’t want Cantillon to be the first sour beer you ever have. It will ruin every other sour after.
