Adjuncts can make or break a beer. We all have our favorites as well. Personally, if it’s a stout, if there’s maple or vanilla in it I’m sold. IPA or sour? Bring me anything remotely creamsicle flavored. I’ll also try anything with ginger in it – it makes a beer so refreshing on a hot day! Recently, I’m coming around to a new adjunct- banana. I’ve had two brews that sold me on banana beers. Here’s what they are.
Beer 1 – Aurochs Brewing’s Banana Popsicle. Now, I’m not gluten-free, just a beer lover. But let me tell you, Aurochs is working some magic and making great brews with atypical ingredients like millet and quinoa. This 5% brew reminds me immediately of the childhood banana popsicles I had often after a summer day outside (anyone else remember them as vividly as me?).
Refreshing and not overly sweet, this one knocked my socks off with the subtle banana flavor! Well done! Want to snag this brew? Aurochs is still to-go only, but you can grab a crowler of it to enjoy this week if you’re local to the ‘Burgh.
Beer 2 – ShuBrew’s Monkey King. This one was a big surprise in the best way. An IPA, don’t let fear of hop flavor keep you from trying this beer. Loaded with tropical aroma, this beer smells amazing. Then, there’s the taste. Holy bananas, Batman! Banana, coconut, and pineapple flavors make this a tropical treat to remember.
Monkey King is a 5.6% beer that finishes clean and is perfect for these dog days of summer. This one is available on draft at ShuBrew, be sure to swing up to Zelienople and try it!
