Ironically in the world of craft beer, pioneer and giant New Belgium often gets overlooked. I couldn’t tell you why that is, but what I can tell you is many beer enthusiasts owe New Belgium. When in college, Fat Tire was like a delicacy when you I got tired of the local lite beer. That’s why I still look to the brewery when they release new beers, such as their collaboration, Oh Hi!
There are a lot of aspects to this beer that I can honestly say I have no educated clue about. Kombucha (from Flying Embers in California), pixie tangerines, Colorado Sage…things usually not found in my kitchen. But what is always fantastic about New Belgium is their ability to take the complex and make it simple and delicious for all of us.
They combined the above ingredients with their wood-aged golden sour, creating a sessionable sour that isn’t too intimidating. It is Colorado meets California meets your taste buds. You don’t need a background in gastronomy to know that this unique flavor combination is sublime. The bonus is that because New Belgium is as big as it is, you can most likely find this beer where you live.
