To say Bissell Brothers Brewing makes a beer with everything but the kitchen sink would be fairly accurate. Their latest beer, Menagerie, is the culmination of all things Maine.

This mixed fermentation ale really is outstanding in its dedication to showcasing the ingredients of Maine. All the malts, which includes oats, wheat, rye and pilsner malt, are all from Maine. Then the stars of the beer shine through. They brewers add Maine blueberries, strawberries and spruce tips to showcase the agriculture of their home state.

Any knowledgeable home brewer will tell you that beer ingredients tend to be dominated by a few producers and companies. But what Bissell Brothers shows is that going local with ingredients can create truly unique beers. It may not mesh well with saving money, but sometimes it is worth it to help make a great beer unforgettable.
