It’s a good weekend for brews in the ‘Burgh my friend! We’ve got a huge special release from East End Brewing this week. This one only happens once a year and it was missed last year due to COVID. Let’s show some gratitude, yinz!
For real though, it’s Gratitude Day tomorrow, June 16th. What’s Gratitude? It’s East End’s yearly barleywine release and it has quite the following. This beer is an OG East End release, with the first brew occurring during this brewery’s first year open (2005) . Every year since, a new colored bottle is released. This year it’s violet!
An 11.1 % brew, this beer is made to age and get better as time goes on. Expect a sweet, boozy, smooth concoction that has a special place in many a yinzer’s hearts.
This year’s batch isn’t the only thing being sold. You can get your hands on 2016 onward in limited supply. There’s also a limited edition wheat paste overwrap for the 2018 and 2019 dollars. Want to try it barrel aged? Rye Barrel-Aged 4 packs are available as well in cans.
Want to try something completely new for gratitude day? The last release has me the most intrigued, East End collaborated with Maggie’s Farm Rum for “Gratitude Bier Schnapps”. Basically, this is gratitude whiskey and I need to try it! Small samples will be available if you’re just as curious as I.
The festivities start tomorrow, June 26th. You can buy on premises all day, and online sales will open at 1pm for what is left. East End is serving gratitude flights all day with the 2015, 2019, 2020, and 2020 BA editions being the stars for a mere 20 dollars. You can also get the new edition to the crew on tap. The kitchen opens at 12pm for food and I’d highly recommend grabbing one of their epic pizzas to enjoy!
It’s going to be a great weekend for this release! If you love barleywine, this is a must do. Cheers and gratitude to all things East End this weekend!
