B.O.R.I.S. The Crusher from Hoppin’ Frog out of Akron is one of the first Russian Imperial Stouts I was ever exposed to as a young (legal) beer drinker. Its reputation was such that upon hearing me say I had never tried it, a gentleman in line at a beer festival poured me a glass of his for free. Hoppin’ Frog is always riffing on their famous beer, and their newest creation is a Raspberry Hazelnut Biscotti.
Evolutions of B.O.R.I.S. The Crusher looks to take the classic beer to new heights. The multi-medal winner at the Great American Beer Festival, B.O.R.I.S. is a shining example of an Oatmeal Russian Imperial Stout. Where some breweries bury their stouts and subsequently their flavors in double digit ABVs, Hoppin’ Frog keeps B.O.R.I.S. at a respectable 9% and change. This allows the flavors of this variant to really shine through without having to combat against the alcohol burn.
While some of these variants may come and go, Hoppin’ Frog knows their strengths. Count on new versions to make their ways to shelves, or at least to the brewery’s online shop.
