The Commonwealth of Virginia has become one of the top parts of the country to go for a fantastic beer. Both old guard and young breweries alike are producing some of the most unique beers in the country. In Virginia Beach, about an hour and a half southeast of Richmond, Commonwealth Brewing Co. is turning out beer after fantastic beer in the Mid-Atlantic.
Their new release, Strawberry Bourbon Whip, can best be described as a big, sexy, and decadent addition to their portfolio. The 14.6% ABV stout is full to the brim with flavor. Tahitian vanilla beans, cacao nibs, and strawberry marshmallow creme swirl together to form a dessert-like flavor in your mouth. They then double barrel age this Imperial Stout in Bourbon barrels to provide just enough contrast to the sweetness of the beer.
Opened in 2015, this wife and husband owned brewery brews up and puts out enough different beers to keep even the most avid beer enthusiasts satiated. It is hard to mistake Commonwealth’s labels for any other brewery’s, so it should be easy to find in your local store if you are within their distribution footprint.
