Some beers aim for balance, while others embrace and amplify particular flavors. The Veil Brewing Co. is opting for the latter with their newest release, engraved.

Big, bold, smoky, decadent. This is the type of beer you get with engraved. Made with 100% South American malt, this beer gets the majority of its flavor profile from barrel aging. While six months to a year is usually enough, The Veil went a step further. They took their Imperial Stout and aged it for 20 MONTHS in Laphroaig Scotch Whisky** barrels.

Admittedly, this beer may be a bit much for you if you are not a Scotch drinker. Scotch dominates the flavor profile, meaning that this beer will be distinctively smokey and peaty. Rather than pairing it with just dessert like a typical BA Stout, think of it as an aperitif.  It would be fine on its own when allowed to warm up to release the full flavor profile. It would also be fantastic paired with a fine cigar (if you partake).

Whether or not Scotch is in your wheelhouse, this is a beer that takes a little extra TLC to produce. If you can manage to grab a bottle, do not be afraid to take your time imbibing just as The Veil did to create it.
