The spring is here, which means it is time for Lager season. While Bocks and Kolsches come to mind, the team at Anchorage Brewing Company is releasing something a bit bigger for your drinking pleasure.
Released this week is their Barrel-Aged Baltic Porter, Frayja. I know what you might be thinking: Porters are not Lagers. If this is you, then let me be the first to introduce you to this not-so-common style. It has all the flavors of a bigger Porter, but with a much more concentrated malt sweetness. Expect fewer hop aromatics but a crisp, clean flavor profile you would see in other lagers.
Frayja is definitely anything but light on flavor. This beer is aged for a year in Woodford Reserve Double Oaked Barrels with Madagascar Vanilla Beans for good measure. Clocking in at 11% ABV, this is a beer that could use a little time in your cellar to smooth out any alcohol bite. But honestly, if you have not had a Baltic Porter, try it fresh. You will be shocked by how drinkable it can be with no age on it.
