It is that time of the year. The weather is changing and the children are getting out of school for the summer. Most importantly, it is the season of the LAGER. For unknown reasons, lager appreciation is only officially in May every year instead of year-round. All the same, loyalists of the lager, like Kings County Brewers Collective (Brooklyn, New York), are paying tribute.

Any brewer will tell you that there is not a lot of room to hide brewing mistakes in lager. The Helles Lager may even be more so. It has a bready yet not sweet malt backbone, with just enough hop bitterness to balance it out.

KCBC puts their own spin on this style with their beer, Welcome to the Underworld. Using that classic pilsner malt, the team takes some liberties and adds in a bit more bitterness. With additions of Tettanang, Saaz, and Saphir hops, the beer gets that noble hop spice with just a splash of citrus.

If you are in the mood for some KCBC beers, check out their website for pickup and delivery options!
