Royal Sushi & Izakaya is a famous sushi restaurant located in South Philly. Chef/owner Jesse Ito has been nominated for multiple James Beard Awards, and the restaurant has carried Tired Hands’ famous beer since opening in 2016. Prior to the pandemic, the restaurant offered a $125 per person omakase menu, but now they’re only offering takeout. View their takeout menu here.
Anyway, you’re probably not here for the sushi. Although, it’s damn good. You’re probably here for the beer, so here are the details. Tired Hands collaborated with Royal Sushi & Izakaya on a brand new Pale Lager appropriately named Royal Lager.
They brewed this beer with house lager yeast, German malts, and German Perle and Tettnanger hops. Then they conditioned it on unfiltered yuzu juice and 300lbs of Jesse Ito’s sushi rice. This crisp, refreshing lager clocks in at 4.6% and packs notes of freshly squeezed lemonade, mineral water, oyster crackers, and white sage.
If you’re not into lagers, Tired Hands just released some delicious hoppy beers this week. This includes DDH Coconut Alien Church and DDH Refreshing (Riwaka). Order shipping to Pennsylvania, Virginia, and DC here. The Royal Lager collaboration is also available for shipping and at their locations in Ardmore and Fishtown, Philadelphia.
