Winter, in my opinion is a truly underrated season. There’s something perfectly magical about blankets of snow and sitting safe in one’s house watching the snow rain on down. I know there’s also slushy sidewalks, bad road conditions, and bitter windchill as well, but winter has a special place in my heart.

The past few years in the ‘Burgh we have been lacking when it comes to snow. However, this winter is NOT the case. With snow being on the ground and actually staying there for more than 24 hours and another winter storm on the rise, I’ve been thinking about the beers I want to be snowed in with tomorrow if this storm actually hits. Here’s what’s on tap:

Beer number 1 – Butler Brew Works: Hunker Down. The Winter Warmer is a personal favorite this time of year. It’s a slightly boozy treat that warms you up perfectly. This 9% beer is brewed with brown sugar, star anise, cinnamon and sweet orange peels for that perfect spicy warmer taste. It’s going to be perfect for this week as we ride out the days of snow headed our way!

Beer number 2 is an IPA. We just did our first Brew Gentlemen online pickup in ages and I threw a four pack of The Trees in at the last minute. Oh my word, I am so glad I did! Made with spruce tips, Hallertau Blanc, and Citra hops, this beer is like a perfect wintertime IPA. Light and hoppy, the spruce flavor is just right and not overwhelmingly piney. This salute to winter trees is just right for after a snowy hike or time sledding!

Lastly, let’s finish things off with a big old stout. Abjuration Brewing is a personal favorite of mine when it comes to unique and quirky beers. This week, they released Breakfast Imperial Stout 1.1. This brew is conditioned with maple syrup, vanilla beans and blueberry purée. A boozy breakfast choice? I think so. Tasting like liquified blueberry pancakes and maple syrup, this is the brew I want to finish the perfect snow day with.

Whether or not this snowstorm actually happens, these brews would create the perfect snow day for me. Crack a pint, get cozy, and enjoy the weather with one of these beers to celebrate the long weekend! Did I miss a favorite snowy day beer? Let me know in the comments below. Yinz stay safe and warm out there!
