I’m going to be honest with you guys, I hate Valentine’s Day. I feel like it’s a day that has such high expectations and it makes me anxious! Whether you’re single and looking for a partner, or with someone, there’s the expectation that the day has to be special. We keep it simple in this house usually with good beer and pizza.
However, there is one thing that I LOVE about Valentine’s Day: the chocolate. I love going to the store the day after and getting all of the discount candy. It’s a dream come true and something I can always rely on, whether or not my Valentine’s Day is on point. This year, I’m taking my deep love of chocolate and applying it to beer! Here’s the chocolate brews I need to scoop up this week in order to keep my sweet tooth satisfied!
First, there’s Whitehorse Brewing’s Chocolate Covered Strawberry Stout. It seriously doesn’t get more Valentine’s Day than chocolate covered strawberries. It doesn’t get more Yinzer than Sarris Candies. A collaboration with Sarris,, this brew is certain to satisfy your Vday needs and chocolate cravings. Available at both Whitehorse locations (in Washington, PA and Berlin), you can grab a pint of this 6.0% stout or bottles to go! It’s the perfect dessert to end your evening with.
Next, let’s go to Millvale favorite, Grist House. Even though you cannot get a pint on premises at the moment, Grist has been killing it with diverse can releases for every beer lover. Mexican Mocha checks all of the boxes for me. A big ol’ pastry boi at 10%, this one’s exploding with flavor. Expect notes of vanilla bean, milk sugar, cinnamon, cascabel peppers, and chocolate in this masterpiece. Spicy but not overtly so, note that this beer is chocolate and coffee forward and 100% worth your time. I’ve seen this one also available at some distributors in the ‘Burgh, so grab it while you can!
Lastly, we’re turning to one of my all-time favorites. This beer has a special place in my heart as one of the first Imperial Stouts that I said “WOW” out loud when I tasted it for the first time. Hitchhiker Brewing’s We all Scream is this iconic brew. I love this beer. It’s a 10%er that will warm you up on these cold February nights. Loaded with milk sugar and conditioned on cocoa nibs, strawberry and vanilla beans, this beer tastes like neapolitan ice cream. It’s sublime, and easily one of my top five Pittsburgh beers. If you love stouts, you need this one.
Whether you’re planning on sharing these brews with your significant other or stocking up for yourself, chocolate beers will never let you down. Grab some of these brews this week and cheers to having a raging sweet tooth!
