“It’s an entire world in 64 squares.”

With the huge resurgence in chess during the Covid period, Grimm Artisinal Ales an appropriately named beer, En Passant.

If you are not familiar with the chess term namesake, that is not a big deal. What is important is that En Passant is their Saison, Castling, aged in French Oak barrels and conditioned on Reisling pomace. This golden sour ale is just the most recent addition to the brewery’s Open Work Series.

What we get is a tart, drinkable (5.5% ABV) farmhouse ale that combines delicate fruit notes with a peppery, Belgian yeast flavor that elevates it even more. The Reisling pomace gives it one more level of complexity that makes it big on flavor while still showing restraint.

Even though it was just released this weekend, the forecast shows it going fast. Pick up a bottle at the brewery if you can!
