I know that 2020 was a dumpster fire, but there were some silver linings. Personally, I sense and feel a togetherness in the Pittsburgh beer scene – we’re riding out this crazy pandemic together.
East End has put that spirit in their PA Loophole Collaboration beers. As us beer nerds know, canning has been the name of the game throughout the pandemic. This series was created with the smaller breweries in mind that don’t necessarily have the means of packaging their beer beyond growlers or crowlers.
Breweries in Pennsylvania are able to sell beers from other PA breweries, but only for on-premises consumption, unless it’s a collaboration beer with the other brewery listed on the label and in the paperwork. East End brewed the beer at their facilities, and all PA breweries were welcome to sign on so they could sell the cans in their breweries, benefiting all involved. A perfect loophole.
The best part? There are so many PA Breweries involved! Places include Bloom Brew, Lincoln Avenue Brewing, Rusty Gold Brewing, Spring Hill Brewing, Mondays Brewing and more. My favorite part about this project is that each edition of the beer is completely different than the previous.
PA Loophole 1 (7.2%) started things off with a New England IPA . It was the perfect balance of the IPA dank with citrusy goodness! PA Loophole 2.0 (7.9%) was a full-bodied Mexican chocolate stout bursting with flavor. Now, PA Loophole 3.0 highlights another classic beer style!
This time, they’re keeping things crisp and easy with a pilsner. A 4.8% brew, this dry-hopped Pilsner is made with Weyermann Pils malt, Hallertau Blanc, and Huell Melon hops. This crushable brew is just the ticket for enjoying during a Pens game as we endure these cold winter days!
At under 20 bucks a four-pack, this brew is a steal! Check out any of the breweries involved to pick one up today. Keep supporting this awesome endeavor – I can’t wait to see what the 4th version brings!
