“We want to give women a reliable product that she can consume confidently, allowing her to be her best self for the rest of the day.” – Megan Greenwood, owner and founder of Greenwood Brewing.
Megan Greenwood received a home-brewing kit for her birthday some years ago. This birthday gift changed the course of her career and inspired her to pursue the dream of owning a brewery.
And not just any old brewery, but a brewery that would welcome women and men, alike, and be a place where friends could share meaningful and powerful conversations over a pint (or more).
Megan says, “I believe people need to encourage each other and share with each other in order to create change in their lives, and craft beer can be a vehicle for culture shift.”
Located in downtown Phoenix is a taproom so inviting and so beautiful, with hues of rose gold, and emerald green, and natural touches from exposed wooden beams. Behind the natural wood bar-top and above a rack of sparkling glassware, sits a shiny new tap system that rests upon a marble backsplash, all beneath the marquee that says, “She believed she could, so she did.”
Megan acknowledges the difference in the way men and women think about beer. It’s not to say they intentionally market to men, but they (a predominately male-driven industry) may not consider the way women approach beer.
“Women are different: we purchase differently, we consume differently, we see a beer bottle and we think, ‘oooh. have I had my calories for the day?’ or what my best friend asks ‘what does it do for me?‘ How many men do you hear these same questions? I don’t think we need to compromise when it comes to drinking a beer, that is mentally stimulating, great tasting, easy to order, and we don’t feel like we just ate-an-entire-loaf-of-bread afterward. That’s at least a few of the reasons behind Greenwood Brewing. Women are different and we should be considered when creating a product.”
Herstory Pale Ale, the namesake of a nomination series that celebrates women who make a difference in the world and who share a love for craft beer, is a cool, crisp Pale Ale hopped with Mosaic, Falconer’s Flight and Warrior hops. In addition to an approachable Pale, available is an Oatmeal Stout with a nice, low abv, a Belgian Tripel, a Wheat and a few more IPA’s for good measure.
This fresh new brewery just celebrated 6 months of business and we cannot wait to see what comes from Greenwood Brewery and their team. Keep your eyes on this female driven operation, as I truly believe they are on the horizon of great success!
