What says beach beer more than a hazy IPA? Call me crazy, but something about those juicy, citrusy hops pairs so beautifully with salty air and sandy toes. Yes, I know it’s January, but it’s never too early to start dreaming of warmer weather.
This week, Left Coast Brewing Co of San Clemente, CA released a fresh addition to their IPA portfolio- the Big Boy Pete Double Hazy. Announced via the company Instagram on Saturday, January 16, the beer fits snugly into the summer setting described above. The beer weighs in at a burly 8.2% ABV, and a light and crispy 20.8 IBU. The beer was released to both Left Coast taprooms- one in Irvine, CA and one in San Clemente. It would appear that the beer is only available in crowlers and on draft for now.
Left Coast Brewing Co is “Family owned and operated in the surfside town of San Clemente, CA since 2004. From our sand to yours.” Known for bold beers such as the Hop Juice Triple IPA ( 10% ABV), Asylum Belgian-Style Tripel (11.2% ABV), and the Voodoo American Stout (8% ABV), the Big Boy Pete Double Hazy fits the brand. According to their website, in the 16 years since their inception, they’ve managed to reign in “23+ awards” and have grown to more than 11,000 barrels produced annually.
Most of my articles end with the sad news that whatever brewery I’m covering does not yet have national distribution. Thankfully, Left Coast Brewing can currently be found in liquor stores in twelve states across the country, allowing for ready access for the intrepid beer drinker. More specifically, for the east-coast FueledFam, you can find Left Coast’s tasty concoctions in Delaware, Maryland and Florida. The brewery also distributes internationally to 7 countries including New Zealand, Japan and the United Kingdom. No excuses! Get some!
