Bombshell Beer Company, the first all-female owned brewery in North Carolina, was conceptualized by three female friends, who all took interest in home-brewing. Ellen Joyner had been brewing at home for over a decade, while her business partners, Michelle Miniutti and Jackie Hudspeth joined in the fun a few years later.
Doors opened to their Holly Springs, NC location in January of 2014. Within the 5840 sq. foot space, is a brewing facility, which houses a custom-made 15 BBL steam-fired brewhouse that was crafted here in the US using US steel (it was important to ownership to support American made.) With two 15 BBL, three 30 BBL, and one 45 BBL fermentation tanks, two 30 BBL uni-tanks and one 30 BBL Brite, this team of ladies along with head brewer, Devin Singley, are NOT messin’ around when it comes to high volume and quality equipment!
Within the building, you can find their very own lab, where they understand the importance of analyzing yeast health to ensure the production of quality and consistent beer.
“We believe that these quality measures are critical to producing clean beer that is approachable and easy drinking.” – Bombshell Beer Co.
Bombshell Beer Co.’s 1200 sq foot tap room and outdoor beer garden offers a welcoming space for patrons to bring their families, friends and doggos to engage in trying all that Bombshell has to offer. There is some incentive for visiting the taproom, because they offer in-house tap exclusives that are not available for distribution.
Bombshell offers a solid core beer lineup. A lager, and IPA, a wheat and an Amber ale. They released a Barrel Aged version of their Amber, Lady in Red, and was received rather well. With an average rating of 3.94 on Untappd, this smokey, caramel bourbon-y ale pleased the palates of not only the their fans, but also the palates of GABF judges and earned the brewery a Bronze medal in the Wood and Barrel-Aged category in 2019.
Another brew popular amongst Untappd users is Uber Night, a big, boozy and bitter Imperial stout chock full of dark chocolatey notes and a body that just clings to the glass. They released a BBA Uber Night, as well, receiving high praise.
The final beer I wanted to mention, is their Hop Lab: Experimental IPA series, where they explore using different hops from all over the world, to achieve that perfectly formulated Hazy and hopefully have a lot of hoppy little accidents along the way! Not to mention, the label for the can is adorable.
