As craft beer has grown, it’s safe to say that ABVs have followed suit. Maybe it has something to do with the law of diminishing returns. Maybe it’s fate. There’s also something to be said for just doing things for the hell of it. Whatever the case, Wiley Roots is set to release a beer this weekend that goes directly against this trend, in a most intriguing and crushable way.
Wiley Roots Brewing Company of Greeley, CO is set to release an all-new session lager called Nearly Dry, available in 16oz cans for $10 a 4-pack. The name is a nod to Dry January, that one challenging month a year where the more elevated members of the craft beer community cleanse the mind, spirit and liver for the first month of the year. It is also an acknowledgment of the fact that the beer is a small-but-mighty 3.5% ABV, and according to their Instagram post, Keto-friendly with only 3.5 grams of carbs, and 109 calories! I never thought I’d see the day.
The announcement post states, “It’s easy drinking, incredibly crisp, and packed full of flavor. This beer is made for enjoying while staying active, working on projects around the house, baking new recipes, enjoying with a great meal, or doing anything else that keeps you going.” It’s the Swiss Army knife of beers! It sounds particularly perfect for a nice long day on the snowy mountain, with whichever piece of fiberglass you prefer to strap to your feet.
Sadly, this crushable cutie will not be distributed outside of the taproom and cannot be shipped. It is available for online order/pickup, with a one-week pickup window. Ordering will open this Sunday, January 10 at 6pm, and pickups will begin on Wednesday, January 13. The brewery also mentioned that it will be on draft sometime starting next week. I hope I can get ahold of some of this guilt-free deliciousness!
