Another wonderful collaboration this week! From the western half of this great nation comes the newest effervescent effort from the brains behind Device Brewing Company and Original Pattern Brewing Company. Although both breweries are based out of California, a decidedly western state (it’s 2020 though so let’s be honest, everything is up for debate), the collaborative effort announce this week is in the style of the famed and storied North East IPA.
Sactown to Oaktown NEIPA, an homage to the hometowns of both participating breweries, was announced via Instagram on December 16th, 2020, for a same-day release. The description of the beer on the announcement post is enough to make any hophead’s mouth water. Weighing in with a strong but middle-range ABV of 7%, the Device announcement post states, “We wanted this to be an absolute juice bomb so we brewed this hazy IPA with New Zealand Waimea, New Zealand Rakau, and Citra hops to get tons of tropical fruit notes. The aroma is bursting with tropical notes of ripe fruit, melon, and papaya with flavors of ripe orange, berries, melon, and pineapple in the taste. This beer is insanely hazy and juicy!” *Insert Homer Simpson drool sound here*
The beer has been canned in pint size, and will be available at all Device Brewing taproom locations, as well as online delivery orders for the Greater Sacramento area (subject to availability and range). Get some if you can!
Device Brewing Co of Sacramento, CA, opened their taproom in late 2013, born of owner Ken Anthony’s longstanding love of craft beer, dating back to pizza-and-Anchor-Steam nights with his dad. With an enormous variety of beer to choose from, the brewery has since expanded to be distributed all over the northern half of California.
Original Pattern Brewing Co of Oakland, CA, was opened in late 2017. According to a 2017 Brewbound article, the brewery is co-founded by former Director of Brewery Operations at 21st Amendment Brewing Co, Ryan Frank, along with partners Caitlin O’Connor, Max Silverstein and Margie Silverstein. The mission of the brewery is to excel in all styles of beer, which has landed them numerous awards including (but not limited to) a Silver Medal at the Great American Beer Festival for the Belgian-Style Ale category.
