It may just be this writer’s opinion, but few breweries ever reach the hype that multiple beers from The Bruery (Placentia, California) achieve. The end of 2020 does not disappoint, with the much anticipated released of Chocolate Reign (2020).
For those that have been following The Bruery over the years, you may be ready to comment on the spelling of this beer’s name. I initially thought so too, until I did some research and realized that Chocolate Reign is indeed different from their other beer, Chocolate Rain. How so? Glad you ask!
These two beers both start the same. Brewed with cacao nibs and vanilla beans, this beer is double barrel-aged in Bourbon barrels to give it even more charred notes and a boozier finish. With so much experience in barrel aging, it is definitely the intention of The Bruery to deliver a beer that can age for multiple years in your cellar, or in my case, the closet in my apartment.
Most breweries are hesitant to brew beers this big (21% ABV), but The Bruery has it down to a science. It may be difficult to get a hold of this beer without trading for it, but if you live in California or Washington DC, check out their website for details on how to enroll in their Reserve Society to get this beer and others.
