With thousands of breweries all over the US, it has become increasingly more difficult for a brewery to stand out. That being said, Monday Night Brewing (Atlanta, Georgia) has taken their shot with their Scotch Ale, Drafty Kilt, by putting out both a barrel-aged and tiramisu variant.
A commonly overlooked and under brewed style, Scotch Ales have a unique niche in the craft beer pantheon. Originally brewed in a country less known for beer and more known for Whiskey, Scotch Ales make use of the unique malts and vegetation around where they were brewed.
Monday Night Brewing has taken Drafty Kilt, which is one of the original beers they offered when they opened nine years ago, and aged it in Bourbon barrels to create a beer that took the gold medal at the Great American Beer Festival (basically the Super Bowl of brewing). The maltiness of the beer is amplified, giving off chocolate, caramel and roast notes that play against the charr notes of the barrels.
If that did not get your mouth watering, the brewers take it one more step with their Tiramisu variant. Using that gold medal-winning base beer, they combine it with the Italian dessert to give the ale cocoa powder and espresso notes in addition to the Bourbon. Get your hands on some today!
