When breweries open a second location, I always get super excited! For example, I live much closer to Sharpsburg than Mount Lebanon, so when Hitchhiker got that second location, I was having their beer a little more often! The latest brewery to open a location downtown seriously makes some of the best IPAs I’ve had in the ‘Burgh.
I’m talking, of course, about Insurrection Aleworks. With their main location over in Heidelburg, it’s an excellent stop for both brews and some BOMB charcuterie (seriously – it’s unreal). I’ve stopped during the pandemic to bring some hoppy favorites home as my husband loves IPAs something fierce.
With the new location over in the Strip, be prepared to make this awesome brewery a part of your crawls and can runs if you’re closer to downtown! Located at 1812 Penn Avenue in Pittsburgh, they will be open from Wednesday-Sunday each week. There is not a kitchen on premise for the new site, but all are encouraged to bring in local food from restaurants nearby (and there are many – including street taco and pizza shops close by!)
The tap list looks awesome as well. DIPAs and IPAs are plentiful and their beer names are always amazing. I’m intrigued by What is a Plethora?, a DIPA that is double dry hopped with Nelson Sauvin, Vic Secret and Citra hops. Dank, naturally, this brew also has some nice white wine notes that make it amazing. As a true DIPA fan, I also want to try Life’s Not a Race, an 8% brew that’s nice and smooth with some pineapple hints. Not into IPAs? There’s a stout, saison, and a wild ale available on tap with similar options available to go as well.
I’m really excited to check out the new location for this local IPA juggernaut. Have you visited Insurrection yet? Let me know in the comments! Way to go on the new downtown taproom!
