I can’t believe it, but the holidays are fast approaching. As this dumpster fire of a year reaches the end, I’d say things are looking up. We’ve been through an almost yearlong pandemic, an election, and social distancing in general. The Holidays equal celebrations in my head, and I’ve got the perfect treat for you all to begin your season with!

From the minds behind Hop Culture and Lagerlands this fall comes an all new experience for the Winter Season: Fir Junction! A winter-themed pop up bar located on Penn Avenue in the East End, I’m legit excited to check out this place. They’ve opened this past week on the fourth and will run until January 31st, so there’s plenty of time ahead to celebrate Thanksgiving, Christmas, or even ring in the New Year there!

One of the things that excites me most about Fir Junction is the rotating taplist. Want to stick to drinking local craft? This week’s list has one of the best IPAs I’ve had in a long time, Strip District Reserve from Cinderlands Beer Co. A collab with Maggie’s Farm Rum and Wigle Whiskey, seriously do not miss this beer. I liked it so much I had to immediately order a second! I also love me a stout, and Dancing Gnome’s Dead Sleep: Coffee was gracing the taps this weekend as well. 

Want to branch out? Fir Junction has a taplist that covers some killer craft breweries throughout our country! Toppling Goliath’s Pseudo Sue Pale Ale is on the taps, one of the most famous pales in the US. This citra hopped pale is delicate in body and brings just enough mango to the party to make it one refreshing brew! 

Also, Fir Junction is currently serving several brews from Brouwerji West out of California. I’d love to try Dog Ate My Homework, a 7% fruit-forward saison loaded with Washington blackberries and currants. Check the tap list before you go to plan your beer adventure! There’s also cocktails and non-alcoholic options for those who desire.

And then there’s the food. OH MAN. Everything in Fir Junction is provided by Chef Jamika Borges and sounds amazing!  Looking at the menu, I need the Spatzle (german dumplings) in my life ASAP. The choices are elevated winter comfort food, ranging from fondue to schnitzel sandwiches. You can even buy s’mores supplies to finish your night, toasting them by the fire. Perfect. 

As mentioned earlier, this epic wintertime treat has just landed in Pittsburgh and it’s open til January! Fir Junction is open Wednesday-Friday from 5-10pm and on Saturday and Sunday from 11am-7pm. Book your table online and early, you don’t want to miss this wintertime treat!
