Back in October, my family and I decided to take a little retreat to the Finger Lakes and check out the wine and beer scene in the area. I sometimes refer to this as our “COVID vacation” since, you know, regular vacations are out the door in 2020.
Anyway, I was skeptical of heading to the Finger Lakes at first, however, my wife found this amazing (and massive) AirBNB in Canandaigua, NY, and I figured, “hey, worst-case scenario, I spend all my time drinking Other Half.”
(For those of you who don’t know, Other Half Brewing has a location about 15 minutes away from Canandaigua, NY.)
So, we hopped in the car and headed to the small, lakeside town of Canadaigua. Like I always do before making a trip to a new city, I researched what breweries would be in the area, and created a list based on a pretty short Google search.
However, as we were driving through downtown Canandaigua, I discovered one brewery that wasn’t on my list: Frequentem Brewing.
“It must be new.” I thought. I was correct, the brewery literally just opened a few months ago. And you know how much I LOVE trying out new breweries. Seriously, I absolutely love trying out new breweries.
We headed to Frequentem a few days later and were absolutely blown away by the place. It’s spacious, inviting, and full of great beer. Seriously – for a new brewery, you’re going to be shocked at how good the beer is.
I didn’t take any pictures that day because I’m absolutely terrible at that, however, they let me try a few experimental hazy IPAs that I believe are going to become regular staples there. They also maintain a pretty a pretty diverse tap list that’s sure to have something for everyone: hazy IPAs, cream ales, brown ales, etc.
If I had to pick a favorite beer of the day, I was definitely say the IPAs were my favorite. In face, I was blown away by the quality of the IPAs.
Being as the brewery is so new, I imagined the quality of the beer would be a little less quality than I was used to drinking (hey, everyone needs to start somewhere!). To my surprise, that wasn’t the case.
If you’re worried about the quality of the beer not being up to snuff, I’m here to tell you that you will be quite surprised, as I was, about the beer.
For the non-beer lover, and in true Finger Lakes form, the brewery also maintains a nice list of wines and ciders.
If you’re looking for food, as most brewery hoppers in the COVID area are, Frequentem offers some extremely tasty pizzas and popcorn for you to eat while you’re checking out the beer. I had the Bee Sting ciabatta pizza while I was there, and loved every slice of it. It packed a little heat from the meat, however, the honey comes right over the palette and cools everything down.
Ok, so I can rave about Frequentem Brewing all day, however, you really need to place this place on your radar. And, if you’re ever in the Finger Lakes area, make sure you stop in and check them out.
.. and if you happen to grab any beer to go, give me a call as I may have order that needs muled – lol.
