Congratulations to the newest elected members of Pink Boots Society’s Board of Directors for 2021: Danii Oliver (Island to Island, Beersgiving), Blanca Quintero (Highland Park Brewery) and Francis Antonio-Martineau (FemAle Brew Fest). What’s even more exciting about these 3 inductees is that they come from various backgrounds and heritages, which will give further representation in the Board and will aid in Pink Boots Society’s mission to promote diversity and inclusion.

For those of you who are not familiar, Pink Boots Society is an organization that assists, inspires and encourages female beer professionals through education. The organization has 80 active chapters across the globe and offers monthly scholarships that educate in all aspects of the craft beer industry.

Every year, with the exception of 2020 of course (the hop selection was virtual this year), members of PBS come together at GABF to do a hop selection for the upcoming year’s PBS Hop Blend, which is used throughout all chapters to brew up a beer that raises funds that go back into the local chapters and to the scholarship fund. These brew days are so vital to the mission of PBS. It offers educational opportunity for collaboration and supports furthering education for women in the beer industry.

Historically, PBS was curtailed only to women in the beer industry, but has since opened up to women in fermentation businesses of any kind (kombucha, wine, cider, etc.) in an effort to further diversify the membership of PBS and offer women more opportunity.

It was announced by PBS a few months back, in light of the Black Lives Matter movement, that the chapter was actively seeking ways to amplify the voices of underrepresented groups in the organization and was making great strides to create a long-term DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) strategy. In doing so, PBS launched a Diversity Task Force, dedicated to taking concrete action toward social justice.

Be sure to purchase the next PBS collaboration beer you see on tap (some time around March 2021) and raise a glass to support women in beer, diversity and inclusion for all!
