For Equilibrium Brewing’s (Middletown, NY) collaboration with Horus Aged Ales (Oceanside, CA), rather than start with a simple beer, they have decided to live dangerously and release a big Triple IPA, Altair, as the first of their two-part collaboration.
Taking their recipe for a Double IPA, they amped up the ABV to bring it to TIPA strength. Using Citra, Mosaic, Galaxy, and El Dorado hops, the beer is full of pear, orange, mango, papaya, and ripe melon flavors. The soft mouthfeel only adds to this surprisingly easy drinker at 10% ABV.
If you aren’t familiar with Horus Aged Ales, they started in 2015 aging all their beer in oak barrels to enhance the natural flavors that can be derived from it.
These two have a second beer coming out that is rumored to be a big stout, so we will get a chance to see how they take on the style together. Look out for Altair now, and more to come soon.
