California Wild Ales Gets Creative with Comic-Con

San Diego’s only all-sour, all-barrel-aged brewery, California Wild Ales, has been hard at work. This year, from July 22-26, the brewery hosted a Comic-Con themed release of a whopping 13 beers! Some of these are old favorites, some were all-new. The brewery set out to keep the spirit of Comic-Con alive, and as a result, they hosted a costume contest over the course of the event. Winners will receive a bundle Comic-Con merchandise and a set of bottles from the brewery. All beers will also be available to-go in bombers and 16oz crowlers.

The real fun on the beer end of this event is the creative names that the all-sour brewing company has come up with for their new concoctions. With titles such as “Spongebob Sourpants”, “Daenaerys Tar-berry-an”, “Pickle Rick” and more, the event is sure to be a hit. As a connoisseur who suffers from the all-too-rare enjoyment of a sour ale, I myself would be inclined to pick up some of these beers on name alone.

The brewery recently did a Star Wars themed release as well back in May, and had a strong enough response that they’re bringing back some of the more popular beers from that time as well. Following suit with the Comic-Con releases, the names for the brews are fantastic: “Darth Citrius”, a wild ale with lime, lemon and mandarins, “ImPEARial Stormtrooper”, an imperial sour brewed with pear and cinnamon, and “The Dark Side”, a barrel-aged golden sour with a kombucha blend, incorporating beet, pomegranate and hibiscus kombucha, just to name a few.

Aside from the event, beer orders will also be taken over the phone and online. For online orders, customers can visit the brewery website. For phone orders, call the handy-dandy hotline at 855-WILD-ALE. Happy puckering!
