Collaborations are one of the best parts of the brewing industry. Camaraderie and partnership are what makes this industry so welcoming. Also, collab beers produce some of the greatest brews. When the powers of several breweries combine, of course they’re going to lift each other up!

Earlier, I wrote about First Sip Brew Box collaborating with Abjuration Brewing and Couch Brewing to brew Black is Beautiful. Click here to check that post out. Well, the process has begun!

These three Pittsburgh brewing powerhouses met on Sunday, July 12th to get rolling on this beer. As you may know, Black is Beautiful is a collab that originated from Weathered Souls brewing. This beer is a necessary celebration of diversity and togetherness during these times.

I’ve been in communication with Dennis Guy, the owner of First Sip Brew Box and he’s been kind enough to give me a firsthand glimpse into the brewing process. Dennis reported back  that “ Brew Day went amazingly and it was very heartwarming to see the people we care about, our friends and family in the craft beer industry pull together for a good cause.” Check out First Sip’s Youtube channel  to see an up-close glance into this important brew day.

100% of the profits for this beer will go to charity. Dennis let me know that the charity they will be supporting is The Bloomfield-Garfield Corporation. They run a year around program for High Schoolers to support them in being career ready. By working with Juniors and Seniors from Westinghouse, U-Prep, Allderdice, and Obama (all Pittsburgh Public High Schools), this nonprofit helps them stay on track to graduate, form a career plan, and work towards life goals. In last year’s program, 44 students either graduated or advanced to the next grade successfully!

I’m excited for this beer for many reasons. I love dark beers, and this is going to be nice and chocolatey. As someone who works in education by day, this charity and its mission are very dear to me. I will be first in line to support and can’t wait to see the next step in the process!

Lastly, First Sip is releasing a second limited run of their diversity t-shirts. Show your support of this great company by getting one of these shirts! I’ll be following this brew closely, stay tuned for more information!
