It’s almost that time of year again, fellow Beer Nerds. It’s time for barbecues and backyard parties and fireworks and freedom. Of course, no Fourth of July Celebration is complete without good beer, as we all know. Remember that time Budweiser changed the name of its beer to “America” temporarily? Don’t worry, we definitely didn’t include Budweiser on this list. Instead, here are a few excellent craft beer options for your Independence Day celebration.
Liberty Ale is an American IPA brewed by Anchor Brewing Company out of San Francisco. It has an ABV of 5.9%, making it not too heavy for outdoor celebrations, but also not water. According to the brewers, it was first brewed in 1975 on April 18th to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Paul Revere’s ride. They describe it as, “made with the finest barley malt, fresh, whole hops, top fermenting yeast, pure water and the simple natural methods which reflect our exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing.” Liberty Ale was brewed specifically to commemorate an event that led to American Independence, so you can feel extra patriotic while you drink and celebrate.

Blonde Bomber is a Blonde Ale described by the brewers as, “an easy-to-drink session beer with 5.0% alcohol by volume, a true craft beer created for drinkers that love a beer with a gentle flavor profile and a pleasing texture.” What earned this beer a place on the list, though, is the brewers themselves. Blonde Bomber is brewed by Veteran Beer Company, a brewery in Chicago that is completely veteran-owned and operated. In addition, 10% of all profits from everything this brewery does goes to local charities that support veterans. Employing veterans, supporting veterans, donating to veterans, and making great beer? Now that’s something worth celebrating.
Freedom of Speach
Are you surprised to see a beer with a pun in the name on yet another list? Of course not. If anything, you’re probably only surprised to see it listed third. Freedom of Speach is a fruited session sour, described as, “a clean tartness, balanced out by an assembly of ripe peach flavor.” This brew has an ABV of 4.5% and comes to you courtesy of Revolution Brewing Co, the largest independent craft brewery in Illinois. Try out this delicious brew and use your freedom of speech to tell everyone how good Freedom of Speach is. Or, as the brewers put it, “Exercise your right to refreshment!”
This 4th of July, there’s no reason to settle for your uncle’s cooler of Natty, and no excuse for settling for that same old six pack. Check out some of the 4th themed brews on this list to drink festively this holiday, and as always if you have recommendations for other 4th of July brews, make sure and let us know. Cheers to the 4th and cheers to craft beer!
