June marks Pride Month- a month where we celebrate and remember all those who have fought for LGBTQ+ for decades and continue to fight now. Breweries across the nation use this opportunity to shed light on the movement for human rights, and often give back a portion of their proceeds to charities and organizations involved in the fight.
This year has proved no different, with old faithful breweries like Montucky Cold Snacks dedicating their usual 8% of all profits back to charities to LGBTQ+ specific organizations for the entire month of June, as well as 100% of profits from their swag going back as well. For those who are unfamiliar, their pledge of “8% back to local charities” is printed on every one of their cans, and has been pledged since 2012.
Some breweries have opted to brew beers in honor of Pride, as well as pledged proceeds from their Pride beer to the cause. Among them are Atrevida Beer Company of Colorado Springs, with a Friday (the 26th) release of Christopher Street SMaSH Pale Ale- brewed with pale malt and Mosaic hops. One dollar from every pint of the draft-only beer will go to an LGBTQ+ nonprofit.
Deschutes Brewing of Bend, Oregon have collaborated with the Sexual & Gender Minority Youth Resource Center in Portland, Oregon to create Bubbles and Brunch “Beerlini”, a fruited lager in the style of a Bellini, a champagne cocktail. One dollar from every six-pack sold will go back to the resource center.
Support the cause if you are able. Pride inspires some really interesting and refreshing beers, as if you weren’t already convinced. Happy Pride!
